PERMANENT MAKEUP

Is there anything better than waking up to a flawless face of makeup that stays intact so you can just roll right out of bed? It is now possible to fulfill that wish thanks to permanent makeup.

In permanent makeup, you can recreate your favorite makeup looks with cosmetic tattoos that are semipermanent in nature. You've probably heard of microblading already. The eyebrow tattooing technique has become popular due to a growing interest in brows over the last few years.

Treatment Information

What Is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup uses tattoo machines to instill pigments into the skin with what looks like electric pen-shaped needles or even a manual blade containing natural iron oxide. Pigments can last for years, but the color fades over time.

The pigments used in the process are all-natural and hence non-reactive. You can choose from a wide range of colors; the options are limitless.

Is It Safe?

Permanent makeup treatments are generally safe and must be performed by a skilled and professional permanent makeup artist. Here at SHAW SKIN CLINIC, Holly Smith will be your permanent makeup artist. She is board certified and an independent licensed body artist.

Permanent makeup pigments are produced from natural minerals and contain non-toxic and hypoallergenic properties, making them completely safe to use on skin. It is approved by doctors and trusted by cosmetic surgeons worldwide.

The procedures are similar to getting a tattoo, and the technicians carrying out these procedures must adhere to strict sanitation and hygiene practices. Ensure complete safety by using sterile needles and following proper cleaning protocols. The procedure is not as painful as it sounds. Some people might feel a prickly sensation and others might not feel anything at all. Anesthetic creams can also be applied before the procedure to ease the pain and make the procedure a lot more comfortable.

Following the technician’s after-care tips is essential for a quick recovery. There may be swelling but it will heal if you take care of it by following the recommended post-treatment procedures. The medications provided will greatly aid in the recovery process.

Who Is The Treatment For?

Everyone! Men and women.

How Does It Work?

Schedule with our online booking system and Holly Smith, our licensed permanent make-up artist will provide a phone consult prior to your appointment to ensure you are a candidate and give your pretreatment guidlines to follow.

What Are The Advantages?

Freedom from the hassle of applying makeup, it is nearly maintenance free.

Permanent makeup is especially valuable to people who can’t wear traditional cosmetics because of allergies and skin sensitivities. No more chronically red and watery eyes caused by traditional eyeliner products. In most cases the dye used in micropigmentation does not contain the same allergens as traditional makeup.

Now that you’re getting older, admit it, it’s harder to see to put your makeup on. Also, if you don’t have a steady hand or have difficulty holding makeup applicators because of some muscular disorder (arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, or multiple sclerosis) permanent makeup is a lifesaver.

Irregular shapes of your brows, eyes or lips can be modified with permanent makeup. People who have alopecia or whose hair has been affected by chemotherapy, permanent eyebrows are a realistic solution to enhance and improve their natural features and draw attention away from irregularities.

Showcases your natural features. As we get older our lips get thinner and lose their definition, the natural color fades, and they just kind of blend into our face. Not only that, the increase of vertical lines makes it hard to keep lipstick from caking or bleeding onto the skin outside the vermillion border. Not a finished look!

This makes permanent makeup a good solution for people who want a normal look with little effort on a day-to-day basis that also showcases their natural features. Permanent makeup serves to enhance natural beauty and often is undetectable, so regular makeup can be worn over it for a more dramatic look. This makes it a great option for women who want a natural daily makeup look, but also appreciate the versatility of traditional, non-permanent makeup products.

What Areas Can I Treat?

  • Brows

  • Lips (Coming soon)

  • Eyes (Coming soon)

Pre-Treatment

  • Prior to your permanent cosmetic enhancement, think about the look that you wish to achieve. Permanent cosmetic enhancements require 2 application sessions. To achieve the best results, you will be required to return for a touchup procedure four to six weeks after the initial application.  Be prepared for the color intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become softer as the skin heals. This process can take up to fourteen days.

  • Please wear your normal make-up to your enhancement appointment

  • Do not take aspirin or Ibuprofen 2 days prior to and after your enhancement.

  • Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.

  • Keep alcohol intake to a minimum 2 days prior to and after your enhancement.

  • Do not use Retin- A skincare product close to the enhancement area 1 month prior to and after your procedure.

  • Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before the procedure

  • Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face/skin.

  • Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to treatment.

  • Do not work out the day of the procedure.

  • Do not have botox 3 weeks prior to the procedure.

  • Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinners)

  • Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure.

  • In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor color deposit:

  • Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before your tattoo.

  • Do not consume coffee or any caffeine before your procedure.

  • Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood)

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

A series of 2 treatments is needed for best results.

How Long does it take to heal?

Typically results become visually obvious after 7 days but the healing time may vary from person to person.

During the first 4 weeks after receiving the treatment of permanent eyebrows an important healing process occurs. In simple terms, the skin treats the hairstrokes/treated brows as if they are a wound (as the skin has been broken), just as it does when you cut yourself, for example. New layers of skin will form over the hairstrokes\treated brows in order to heal the broken skin underneath. The hairstrokes\ treated brows will rise to the surface and appear a little darker at first whilst this process is happening. Although, most of the color will have been absorbed by the skin, lying underneath the newly formed layers of skin. This in turn, can make the hairstrokes\ treated brows feel extremely faded once the top layer has ‘flaked’ off. Do not panic, this is totally normal. During the remaining weeks, up until the 4 week point, the color will begin to resurface as each layer of skin heals in turn. You will not get the full effect of the first treatment until the whole healing process has finished.

How Long Will The Results Last?

Like any tattoo, permanent makeup will fade over time, making permanent eyebrows more like semipermanent eyebrows. If you use lots of exfoliating skin-care ingredients or don't protect your eyes from the sun then you may notice them fading quicker.

On average, permanent makeup can last for three to five years with the help of touch-ups and care. To keep the makeup looking fresh, it is recommended to get it retouched every year or two.

Is It Expensive?

This treatment is not only easy, long lasting but also affordable.

Is It Pain Free?

The procedure is not completely paid free but it is not as painful as it sounds. Some people might feel a prickly sensation and others might not feel anything at all. Anesthetic creams will be applied before the procedure to ease the pain and make the procedure a lot more comfortable.

Can It Be Used On Teenagers?

You must be over the age of 18.
